Source: Grand View Research1. Solid line shows actuals; dashed line shows the 2026 estimate and 2027 to 2033 forecast. *2027 to 2032 values are Vetra-calculated at the published 23.3% CAGR; see Table 1B.
From May through September 2026, the Vetra research team analyzed 22 market research reports, creator surveys, and platform disclosures published between 2022 and 2026, including creator surveys of up to 5,095 respondents18, to measure the size, growth, earnings, and payout structure of the creator economy. Key sources include Grand View Research1, Precedence Research13, Goldman Sachs7, the IAB3, CreatorIQ18,19, and Epidemic Sound16,17. The study covers global market data plus U.S. revenue and ad spend, and each figure is labeled by what it measures, because these sources count different things. Figures marked with an asterisk (*) are Vetra calculations based on the cited source.
How Big Is the Creator Economy in 2026?
Creator economy estimates differ because each source measures something different. The table below presents the leading estimates, with each row labeled by what it counts.
Primary Table: Creator Economy Market Size Estimates
*Vetra-calculated from published endpoints.
Key takeaways
- The two global revenue estimates agree closely for 2025, at $252B to $254B.1,13
- Goldman Sachs measures a broader total addressable market, and IAB measures U.S. brand ad spend only.3,7
- The rows measure different scopes and should never be added together.
Table 1A: Creator Economy Market by Region, 2025 to 2033
Where is the growth happening? The table below splits the Grand View Research estimate into five regions.
Key takeaways
- North America was the largest regional market in 2025, at $83.7B.2
- Asia Pacific is projected to lead by 2033, growing at a 28.9% CAGR.2
- The regions add up to Grand View Research's global totals for 2025 and 2033.1,2
Table 1B: Creator Economy Market Size by Year, 2024 to 2033
The table below shows the year-by-year path behind the chart at the top of this page.
*Vetra-calculated at the published 23.3% CAGR.
Key takeaways
- The market is projected to grow from $252.3B in 2025 to $1.35T in 2033.1
- The calculated years match Grand View Research's 2033 figure within rounding.1
How Many Creators Are There?
The creator base is large, but most creators have small audiences. The table below shows how creators split by follower count in Linktree's 2022 census.
Table 2: Global Creators by Audience Tier, 2022
*Vetra-calculated share of the 207M tier total.
Key takeaways
- About two-thirds of creators sit in the 1K to 10K tier.4
- Only about 2%* have more than 100K followers.4
- The tiers sum to 207M*, against Linktree's 200M headline.4
Table 2A: Creator Work Status Benchmarks
How many creators treat this as a job? The table below compares three surveys, each labeled by year and sample.
Key takeaways
- In the largest 2026 sample, 62% of creators do not rely on content as their primary income.18
- The smaller 2025 compensation sample skews professional, at 57% full-time.19
- The rows come from different survey groups and are not combined.
How Much Do Creators Earn?
The creator economy is growing fast, but most creators earn little from it. The table below brings together the latest earnings data.
Table 3: Creator Earnings Benchmarks
Self-reported survey benchmarks (sources 6, 17, 18) are shown alongside campaign payment data (source 19). The two measure different things.
Key takeaways
- Two-thirds of creators earned under $10K in 2026, and just under 5% earned more than $100K.18
- Average U.S. earnings rise roughly tenfold* from the smallest to the largest audience tier.17
- The average campaign payment is nearly four times* the median, and the top 10% of creators take 62% of payment volume.19
Table 3A: Creator-Owned Brands and Revenue Sources
What separates higher earners? The table below looks at brand ownership and brand deals.
Key takeaways
- Full-time creators who own a brand earn close to $100K a year.6
- More than 64% of creators want brand deals as their top revenue source, but just over 49% have reached that point.6
Where Creator Income Comes From
Creator income is spread across several streams. The table below shows what 3,000 U.S. and U.K. creators named as a primary source of income.
Table 4: Creators' Primary Income Sources, 2025
Note: Creators could name more than one primary income source, so the shares add up to more than 100%. Each figure is the percentage of creators who cited that source.
Key takeaways
- Live streaming leads as a primary income source, at 32% of 3,000 U.S. and U.K. creators.16
- Income is spread across streams, and no single source dominates.16
- Grand View Research's 36% advertising share measures market revenue, not creator income.1
Table 4A: Monetization Shifts
Which income streams are growing? The table below tracks the shift toward recurring revenue.
Key takeaways
- Subscriptions are forecast as the fastest-growing channel, and 95% of creators already use direct-to-fan models.13,16
- Creator participation in campaigns grew about three times* faster than total payments.19
Which Platforms Pay Creators, and How Much Do Brands Spend?
Platforms share payout data in different ways. The table below lists each disclosed figure with its time period.
Table 5: Platform Scale and Payout Disclosures
*Estimated gross payment run-rate from Sacra, not platform-reported financials.
Key takeaways
- YouTube is the largest disclosed payer, at more than $100B over four years.8
- Facebook's 2025 payouts rose 35% year over year.15
- The payout figures mix cumulative, annual, and estimated scopes, so each comparison needs its time period.
Table 5C: Standard Creator Revenue Splits
What share of revenue do creators keep? The table below shows each platform's standard terms.
Key takeaways
- A 10% platform fee is the standard on both direct-to-fan platforms, Patreon and Substack.21,23
- Ad-supported and live platforms share 45% to 55% of eligible revenue with creators.10,22
- Patreon pages published on or before Aug 4, 2025 keep their older rates, so 10% is the current standard, not a universal rate.23
Table 5A: U.S. Creator Ad Spend by Year
How fast is brand money growing? The table below tracks U.S. creator ad spend from 2021 to 2026.
*Vetra-calculated.
Key takeaways
- U.S. creator ad spend more than doubled from 2021 to 2024.3
- It is projected to reach 3.2 times* its 2021 level by 2026.3
What the Data Means for Fans and Creators
The data shows a market growing faster than most creators' paychecks. Creator-economy revenue is forecast to grow 23.3% a year through 20331, yet 67% of creators earned under $10,000 in 202618. The brand money that does reach creators is concentrated, with the top 10% receiving 62% of payment volume19.
Our analysis also reveals where growth is heading. Subscriptions are the forecast fastest-growing revenue channel13, live streaming is the income source creators cite most often16, and 95% of creators use direct-to-fan models16. For fans, that means recurring payments such as subscriptions and memberships make up a growing share of how creators earn. Vetra Mobile's Unlimited Elite plan includes a monthly VSUB, a streaming credit redeemed as a Twitch sub or YouTube Premium, which folds a fan subscription into an existing phone bill.
